This article examines the strategic internationalization of universities in Uzbekistan and its implications for global
university rankings. The study analyzes internationalization as a multidimensional process encompassing academic
mobility, international research collaboration, curriculum alignment, and institutional reputation building. Special attention
is given to the ways in which global ranking systems operationalize internationalization-related indicators and how Uzbek
universities integrate these indicators into their development strategies. The findings demonstrate that internationalization,
when embedded in long-term institutional planning and aligned with national higher education reforms, contributes to
improved research visibility, academic quality, and global recognition. The article argues that global rankings should
be viewed not as ultimate goals but as navigational tools supporting sustainable institutional development. The results
may be useful for policymakers, university administrators, and researchers interested in higher education reform and
international engagement.
